NORWICH, CT - At 12:13 P.M. on Monday, November 18th, a Norwich Police Officer radioed in that a house was on fire in the area of 35 Lafayette Street. The Norwich Fire Department with Yantic Engine 33, East Great Plain Ladder 5 & Rescue 5 with the Mohegan Tribal FAST were dispatched.

Car 1 arrived at 12:15 P.M., reporting an exterior fire that was extending into the residence of a one-and-a-half-story wood-frame home. Engine 3 arrived and stretched a one-and-three-quarter-inch hose line to the delta side to begin darkening down a large volume of fire, which was also threatening the exposure. Squad A established the water supply and stretched a hose line into the first-floor.

Engine 2 stretched a line to the second-floor. Truck 1 threw ladders and performed vertical ventilation. Engine 33 threw ladders in the rear and performed horizontal ventilation. Companies chased fire in the walls while Rescue 5 filled cylinders.

American Ambulance provided a standby crew and the American Red Cross assisted the people who were displaced. Norwich Public Utilities responded quickly to assist with the power line that had already burned off the house prior to the fire department’s arrival. The Norwich Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
