NORWICH, CT - At 7:29 pm on Tuesday, November 5th, the Norwich Fire Department with Taftville Truck 25 and Occum Engine 41 were dispatched to 31 9th Street for a house fire. Engine 2 arrived at 7:32 pm with fire showing from two windows on the second-floor of a three-story wood-frame occupied multiple dwelling.

Engine 2 reported that the fire was extending to the third-floor and transmitted the second-alarm. Engine 2 stretched a one-and-three-quarter-inch hose line through the front door and up the interior stairs where they found an apartment well-involved. Engine 3 stretched a line to the third-floor and knocked fire that was running the front wall of the home.

Squad A hand jacked 5-inch to the hydrant and established the water supply while Truck 1 performed vertical ventilation. Squad A then stretched a line to the rear and ascended the wooden staircase to the third-floor. Truck 25 performed the primary search which was negative.

Laurel Hill Engine 62 laid in from a hydrant on Prospect Street to establish a secondary water supply which fed Truck 25 so they could use a line from their bucket. The two truck companies then opened up the front of the home and exposed hidden fire. Occum, Yantic and Laurel Hill performed overhaul while Rescue 5 filled air cylinders. The Mohegan Tribal Fire Department provided the FAST and threw multiple ground ladders. Battalion 1 had command and transmitted the third-alarm for manpower.
