Upper Saucon Twp.- On October 11th at 12:09 p.m. the Upper Saucon Fire Company was dispatched to a house fire at 4956 Chestnut Hill Road. Command could see smoke rising in the distance and immediately requested a second alarm. The homeowner had been working on his car in the attached garage when somehow it caught on fire. Unfortunately, the owner was badly burned and his wife suffered smoke inhalation and both were taken to the hospital. The fire spread rapidly throughout the large three story dwelling as getting water to the scene became an issue. Tankers were able to get hydrant water fill site on Chestnut Hill Road, then proceed up a long hill to the ridge where the home was. There, they could off load their water into a port-a-pond, later to have a second one placed into service. Pumpers would then relay water up the driveway to the firegrounds. During the early portion of the fire, evacuations tones had to be sounded to revert to an outside attack. The fire was under control before 2 p.m. The dwelling was a total loss and the township requested the remains to be torn down.
