SALEM, CT - At 1:19 P.M. on Tuesday, October 29th, the Salem & Gardner Lake Fire Departments with Colchester Engine 328, Tanker 128, Bozrah Engine & Tanker 126, Yantic Engine 33, Montville Engine 12, Chesterfield Tanker 32, Oakdale Tanker 42 and the Mohegan Tribal FAST were dispatched to 320 Hartford Road, the Salem Herb Farm, for a house fire.
Car 21 arrived at 1:24 P.M. with smoke showing from the rear of a two-and-a-half-story wood-frame. Ladder 121 backed into the driveway and stretched a one-and-three-quarter-inch crosslay through the back door where they were met with fire coming out of the first-floor and running the eves. Engine 121 and Tanker 127 nursed the ladder while M-40 and Engine 127 set up water supply.
Engine 126 stretched the second line while Colchester and Yantic searched and opened up. Engine 33 also threw ladders and cut the roof for vertical ventilation. Engine 12 set up a tanker fill site at Witch Meadow Campground. Car 21 had command while Car 3 was operations.
Ambulance 527 provided rehab while East Haddam Engine 415 covered the Town of Salem. The American Red Cross responded to assist two adults who were displaced, and the Salem Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
