Shirley, N.Y. — A school bus crash involving a minivan occurred on William Floyd parkway at around 7:20 a.m. on Sept. 5, 2024, prompting a response from the Brookhaven Fire Department and Shirley EMS.
The school bus, owned by Durham School Services and operating within the William Floyd School District, collided with a minivan. Firefighters, led by Chiefs Anthony Verni and Giuseppe Loiacono, arrived on the scene to put down Speedy Dry and clear debris from the roadway.
The driver of the minivan was transported to a local hospital by Shirley Ambulance, while the driver of the school bus was taken by Mastic Beach Ambulance. No students were reported to be on the bus at the time of the crash.
Suffolk County Police, Suffolk Sheriffs, and Fire Police were also present, closing lanes and directing traffic in the area. A spokesperson for Suffolk Police later confirmed that the injuries sustained by both drivers were minor.
When reached for comment, Durham School Services declined to provide a statement regarding the incident.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by local authorities.
