(OCALA, FL.) June 14, 2024 – At approximately 1:10 a.m., Ocala Fire Rescue units responded to a report of a vehicle collision with entrapment near mile marker 348 on I-75 Northbound. A passerby reported witnessing a vehicle veer off the road and collide with a truck parked on the shoulder.

Upon arrival, Engine 6, Rescue 6, Squad 7, Battalion Chief 11, and a Safety Officer discovered a two-vehicle rear- end collision involving a minivan wedged under the back of a box truck. The minivan's single occupant was entrapped within the vehicle. Crews immediately took action to stabilize the minivan and employed extrication tools to remove both driver's side doors and the structural support (B-post) between them, allowing access to the patient.

Once the driver was accessible, medical personnel stabilized the individual, leaned the driver's seat back, and carefully transferred the patient to a backboard for transport. The driver of the minivan was transported to the hospital as a trauma alert. The occupant of the box truck was also transported for further evaluation.

The Ocala Police Department, Marion County Fire Rescue, and the Florida Highway Patrol also responded.
