Concord, NH. February 14-2025. City firefighters were confronted with a fire at an assisted living and memory care unit on Langley Park Way Friday evening. Concord fire alarm received a call for an odor in the building at 2035 hrs. First due firefighters encountered a smoke condition on the upper floors and then discovered a fire in the attic. Battalion Chief 4 Jeff Stone requested a second alarm and a MCI response as the firefighters stretched hose lines and started the evacuation of 61 residents. The combination of the buildings size with the medical needs of the patients intensified the required response, Battalion Chief Jeff Stone explained. "There's two big problems, we have a huge life hazard because we have a lot of elderly folks here who can't really take care of themselves," The initial call reported a smell of smoke, and firefighters located a fire in the roof area of the upper floors. It took about an hour to knock the fire down, BC Stone said. An investigation later determined that the fire had been caused by the heat system in the roof installed to melt snow. The residents were shuttled by buses to the Concord Hospital Cafeteria located next door.
