Fire Alarm To Working Structure Fire At The Metro 7 Diner

On January 26, 2025, at 10:45 PM, the Verdoy Fire Department, Latham Fire Department along with mutual aid from Niskayuna No.2 Fire Department to 1090 Troy Schenectady Road for a reported fire alarm in the Metro 7 Diner. Car sixty-three arrived on scene and had nothing showing from the exterior portion of the structure. Car sixty-three establish command outside of the structure as their first due truck company truck eleven was in route to the scene and only a few minutes away. Truck eleven arrived on scene and made their way inside of the structure and had a smoke condition inside of the structure along with a strong burning smell throughout the building. 


Firefighters began to search for the source of the smoke, as they were doing so additional resources began to arrive on scene, Firefighters inside the diner could not locate source of the smoke, but the condition inside of the structure began to worsen. Command requested the Albany International Airport Fire Department to the scene with an engine and command requested fire services to the scene. As firefighters continue to work inside of the structure, firefighters that made their way to the roof notified command that they had smoke pushing from the kitchen vents, but did not have a heat source in the kitchen on. Firefighters began to pull apart a wall where firefighters had heat and smoke coming from in the rear of the diner. Command requested the Boght Community Fire Company to the scene for their fast team along with the Colonie Village Fire Company to the scene with their fast team. Firefighters deployed an inch and three-quarter hand line off of Niskayuna‘s engine into the rear of the building. 


Command upgraded the initial fire alarm to a working structure fire. Firefighters were able to locate the fire it was between the kitchen wall and the private party room and firefighters began to pull apart the wall. As they did so they discovered the fire in the wall and began to knockdown the fire. Firefighters on the roof notified command that the smoke condition was dissipating. Firefighters inside of the building began to conduct extensive overhaul in the wall area to make sure they did not miss any fire. Firefighters inside of the structure requested ventilation to vent the smoke from the building. Firefighters on the exterior portion of the structure set up exhaust fans to positively charge the building to get rid of all of the smoke from the fire.


Firefighters inside continued to work for an extended period of time and fire investigators began to conduct their investigation into what caused the fire. Firefighters went back into service in the early hours of the morning. No injuries were reported in the restaurant suffered minor damage from the fire. Within a day the restaurant had reopened as it is a popular destination for breakfast and lunch in the Colonie area.
