At 3:58 am on Monday, 2/10/2025 the New London Fire Department was dispatched to 47 Eastern Avenue for smoke coming from the second floor. Battalion 3 arrived at 4:02 with smoke showing and transmitted the working fire.
After completing a 360 the chief reported fire out three windows in the rear that was rapidly extending and transmitted the second alarm. Engine 2 stretched a 1.75” hose line to the delta side and knocked a large volume of fire before stretching to the third floor.
Engine 1’s Driver secured the hydrant for Engine 2 to establish the initial water supply. Engine 1 also stretched a 1.75” crosslay which went up a ground ladder into the second floor that Waterford Truck 15 assisted with. Truck 2 positioned in the front and vented the third floor window. Ambulances 100 & 200 performed the primary searches which were negative.
At 4:13, command reported a partial collapse of the first floor. Poquonnock Bridge Truck 35 threw an extension ladder to the roof on the bravo side and performed vertical ventilation. Crews battled fire on all three floors until command removed them from the building at 4:42.
Engine 1 laid in from a second hydrant on Lewis Street and supplied Truck 2 for defensive operations. A 2.5” hose line was also brought to the rear yard which suppressed a good amount of fire.
Two firefighters sustained minor injuries. They were both treated and released from the hospital. A1 had command while Battalion 3 was operations. The Norwich Fire Department provided the FAST and the New London Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
Waterford & Groton Ambulance as well as Oswegatchie Engine 42 provided coverage.
