NORWICH, CT - At 9:45 P.M. on Saturday, January 6th, the Norwich Fire Department, with Yantic Engine 33 and Taftville Tower 25, were dispatched to 3 Curtis Street for a chimney fire. Battalion 1 and Engine 2 arrived at 9:50 P.M. with smoke showing from the second-floor window of a one-and-a-half-story, wood-frame residential house.
Engine 2 stretched a line to the second-floor where they found smoke banked down. Truck 1 arrived next and sent two guys inside to open up while two members flew the bucket to the roof and chimney. Squad A established the water supply while Engine 3 stretched a line into the first-floor. Crews found fire running the walls and in the floor between the first and second-story.
Tower 25 and Engine 33 threw ladders and assisted with overhaul. East Great Plain Engine 52 and Rescue 5, as well as American Medic 27, staged and ended up covering the city. Once crews got the area opened up, the fire was quickly extinguished. The Mohegan Tribal Fire Department provided the FAST and the Norwich Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
