The Norwalk Fire Department responded to a single-family residential structure at 2 Morton Street at 10:53AM Monday, March 24th, 2025. The adult, sole occupant had exited the home safely prior to the fire department’s arrival. A second alarm was requested while responding due to the visible column of smoke that could be seen. Upon arrival of the 2.5 story dwelling there was a heavy fire on the second floor showing from two sides of the dwelling. All floors, heavy in contents stacked to the ceiling provided an unusually heavy fire load which led to a rapid-fire progression and a move to a defensive posture in the fire attack. The fire went to 3rd alarm prior to being controlled. An excavator was required to dismantle portions of the upper roof, walls, and chimneys for safety due to the likelihood of collapse. The Norwalk Fire Department responded with a total of 38 Firefighters to the 3 Alarm fire consisting of five Engines, two Ladders, a Rescue Company with Command and Support staff. No injuries were reported. The Red Cross is assisting with temporary housing for one displaced occupant. The Norwalk Fire Marshalls office is investigating the cause of the fire.
