NORWICH, CT - Around 11:58 A.M. on Monday, December 23, 2024, the Gales Ferry and Ledyard Fire Departments were dispatched to 18 West Drive for a building fire. Shortly after, a responding officer reported a header visible, so the working fire assignment was filled out, adding Sub Base Engine 62, the Mohegan Tribal FAST and tankers from Poquetanuck, Center Groton, East Great Plain, North Stonington and Laurel Hill’s hose Tender.
Ladder 25 arrived reporting fire showing from the 'bravo' side of a two-story, two-bay attached garage. The crew stretched a one-and-three-quarter-inch hose line to the exterior while Tanker 24 tied in to nurse them. Tanker 14 laid in from the corner of Laurel Leaf Drive and their crew took a line from 25 through the front door and up to the second-floor. Sub Base Firefighters assisted with overhaul on the second-floor.
Engine 11 set up for a drop site operation, but was told to hold off on filling the supply line. The 'bravo' exposure sustained minor damage to the vinyl siding. R1 had command, and the Ledyard Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
