TROUP COUNTY, GA - On July 28, 2024, Troup County E-911, Fire Department, Sheriff's Office, and AMR worked together to perform a rare, SUCCESSFUL out of hospital resuscitation at Troup County Fire Station 10. In October, the patient and her family were able to return to Station 10 to meet and thank her rescuers!
On the day of the incident, Donna Hendrix and her husband were driving from Roanoke, Alabama when she suddenly became unresponsive in the vehicle. Unable to tell if she was still breathing, her husband called Troup 911 and was promptly directed to Fire Station 10.
Upon arrival, TCFD Fire Station 10 crew FF/EMT Rusty Creel and FF/EMT Shane Guerrero quickly determined that she was not breathing and had no pulse, so they moved her from the vehicle to inside the bay in order to start patient care. After providing chest compressions and ventilations, they attached an AED to Mrs. Hendrix. The AED advised that a shock was needed, so it was delivered.
TCFD Battalion Chief Scott Hester arrived on scene and began assisting Station 10 crew members with patient care by inserting an I-Gel advanced airway for better oxygen delivery. The AED also delivered three more shocks to the patient.
Troup County Sheriff's Office personnel and AMR also arrived on scene for further assistance. After switching to AMR's defibrillator, several more shocks were delivered to the patient. Mrs. Hendrix then began to show signs of return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) and was transported to Wellstar WGMC by ambulance.
Please join us in thanking these quick-thinking, professional heroes for their life-saving service: 911 Operators Jesse Bell and Nikki Arndt; Troup County Fire Department's Battalion Chief Scott Hester, FF/EMT Rusty Creel, and FF/EMT Shane Guerrero; AMR's John Songer; Troup County Sheriff’s Office's Robert Searels and Michael Sarno.
