It was a little over two years ago the City of Cape May broke ground on a new firehouse and after a lot of hard work the building is completed. The ribbon cutting occurred on November 29, a full two years one month and nine days after the groundbreaking. However the planning of the new firehouse has been a long time in the making, nine years of planning plus another seven years to actually break ground.

 As Mayor Zackhary Mullock explained, “After decades of discussion, it is remarkable to see this building come to fruition. Indeed the last two and a half years I have had the greatest privilege of cooperating with numerous people from architects to builders to accomplish this shared goal, while still persevering the beauty and legacy of the firefighters museum of which we should be forever proud”

 "In our old building, I always tell the story about [how] I came back from a call one time, and I had to be deconned," Chief Coulter said. "We didn't have the ability. I couldn't come in the building. I did it outside, which was interesting for the people in the trolley that drove by us [as] I was using a garden hose at the time."
