This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

On Monday, October 21, 2024, around 9:10 am, the Bridgeport ECC received a call for a traumatic injury in the 1000 block of Stratford Ave. A construction worker working on a house was reported to have been struck in the head by a falling wall. Battalion 2 and Safety Officer 1 also responded to the incident. Upon arrival, companies found that a basement wall had collapsed and heavily entrapped a construction worker with large amounts of debris on his legs. Additional resources were started to the scene. As members continued to evaluate the situation, it was realized that this would be a long and slow process of freeing the trapped worker. Additional resources continued to be called to the scene, including bringing a mutual aid Rescue Task Force from Fairfield to the scene. Firefighters worked tirelessly to free the trapped worker over the course of about 3-1/2 hours. The worker was finally freed at 12:39 pm and was transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. OSHA is investigating this incident.
