MASTIC, NY - A 28-year-old man was rescued Wednesday evening, October 2nd, after his Toyota pickup truck crashed into a tree and became trapped in the woods along Sunrise Highway. Suffolk County Police received a call at 6:40 P.M. reporting the vehicle in distress, located eastbound between Exits 58 and 59. The Mastic Fire Department and Mastic Ambulance were dispatched at 6:42 P.M. to assist.

Upon arrival, Mastic Fire Chief Steven Januszkiewicz and Assistant Chief Rudy Sunderman confirmed the vehicle had collided with a tree and was partially obscured by dense foliage. The driver was found trapped inside. Firefighters worked quickly to stabilize the vehicle before employing the Jaws of Life to extricate the driver. They successfully removed the driver’s side door and, with a coordinated effort involving Mastic Fire Department members, Mastic Ambulance personnel, Suffolk Police highway officers, and a Suffolk Police Medcat officer, the man was freed from the wreckage.

EMTs treated the driver at the scene for unspecified injuries. The Suffolk Police Emergency Services Unit arrived shortly afterward to assist with the recovery of the pickup truck from the wooded area.

The scene was declared under control by Chief Januszkiewicz at approximately 7:15 P.M., and was subsequently turned over to the police for further investigation.

Police have not released the identity of the driver.
