Voorheesville Fire Department responded to a call for a possible structure on Krystal Lane in the village of Voorheesville on Wednesday April 16st at approximately 2:30pm. Albany County paramedics were first on the scene and reported a smoke condition and attempted entry to check for occupants and were kept back due heavy smoke and visible fire, they also reported that ammunition was heard going off. 1st assistant Chief Hensel while in route transmitted a signal 30 and requested mutual aid from New Salem Fire Department and a ladder truck from Guilderland Center Fire Department. The home owner arrived on the scene and stated that only the family pet was inside. An offensive attack was underway when there was a partial roof collapse and command called for an exterior defensive attack. The bulk of the fire was knocked down in about 45 minutes and crews remained on the scene for another hour and a half putting out hot spots. There were no firefighter injuries but the family pet was unaccounted for and the house was a total loss. The cause is still being determined but is not considered suspicious.
