Minor Fire Quickly Extinguished in Glenmont

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

GLENMONT, NY - A small fire was quickly noticed and extinguished at a home in Glenmont in September.

Crews were called to 347 Route 9W in Glenmont just before 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 4th, for a report of a confirmed structure fire. The caller stated there was heavy smoke pouring out of the building.

Firefighters arrived to find the house filled with smoke, but no visible flames. Crews went to work removing portions of the siding on the home to determine the source of the smoke, as the basement was still filling with smoke. It was determined a small fire took place outside the home and slightly extended to the structure. Crews wet down the area and assisted with ventilating the smoke from the home.

It is believed that an improperly discarded cigarette in the mulch is what may have started the fire, according to Chief Marc Futia of the Elsmere Fire Department.

Elsmere Fire, Delmar-Bethlehem EMS, Albany County Paramedics and Bethlehem Police responded to the scene. There were no injuries reported.
