As done every year the group of men from the FDNY Retired Firefighters (and Police) of Spring Hill Fl Chapter 343 along with the VFW 10209 hold a memorial in honor of those lost on 9/11. On hand are dignitaries, on duty and off duty firefighters along with many retired fire and police Sheriffs both active and retired from areas such as FDNY, Jersey City and Massachusetts and more. Patriotic songs were sung by the Notre Dame Catholic School children's choir and the laying of the wreaths and the ringing of the bell. This year a spot light was on Captain Patrick Brown of Ladder Company 3 on how he grew up went into the Marine Corps and then joining the Fire Department. For those who never heard of him, a short audio transmission was played and you got to hear the bravery and actions that Captain.Brown and his men made on that fateful day along with the many countless others who did the same.
Closing remarks was supposed to be by leader of the Chapter John Lightsey, Ret. FDNY Manhattan Fire dispatcher who worked the Manhattan fire radio on 9/11 was passed on to another as John wanted for someone other than himself to finish the day. Families and friends showed up for support and endured the heat for the service. It was a day of remembrance for all.
