CHATHAM TOWNSHIP, NJ — August 7 — Firefighters were called to a fire at a residential building in Chatham Township following a lightning strike during a storm that ignited the fire in the home.

The Green Village Fire Department, based at 529 Green Village Road, was the first emergency service to arrive at the scene.

Members from the Green Village Fire Department and Chatham Township Fire Department swiftly initiated fire suppression, search, and overhaul operations.The fire was confined to the attic with a minor spread into a nearby room.

The homeowners and their pet were present in the house when the lightning strike occurred, but no injuries were reported among them.

One firefighter was taken to the hospital due to a heat-related issue and was later released that same evening.

Support was provided by multiple departments including the Chatham Township Fire Department, Chatham Borough Fire Department, New Vernon Fire Department, Madison Fire Department, Chatham Emergency Squad, Chatham Township Police Department, Summit Fire Department, and New Providence Fire Department.

Madison firefighters also provided station coverage and assisted with additional emergency calls.

The Green Village Fire Department has confirmed that it offers fire suppression, search and rescue, and other emergency services to Chatham Township Fire District 1 and parts of Harding Township.
