Firefighters encountered a well-advanced house fire with occupants unaccounted for, prompting an aggressive interior attack and search effort.

Lower Swatara Township Fire Department and mutual-aid companies responded to the 500 block of Morgan Drive on Aug. 17, 2026, in Lower Swatara Township, Pennsylvania. Crews stretched lines and began searches before deteriorating conditions and a collapsing roof forced firefighters to evacuate and temporarily transition to defensive operations.

After conditions improved, crews re-entered the structure to complete searches and overhaul. Three people were found deceased.

Lower Swatara was assisted by Middletown, Harrisburg International Airport, Steelton, Harrisburg City, Colonial Park, Londonderry Township and York County firefighters. Highspire and Londonderry Township fire police also assisted.

Investigators later determined two victims suffered severe blunt-force trauma before a third individual intentionally set the fire. That individual also died from fire-related injuries.
