Early Morning Fire Damages Brentwood Home

Brentwood, N.Y. — July 29 — A major fire was reported in the basement of a one-story residence at 4 Stockton Street on Wednesday morning, prompting firefighters to arrive.
Following the 5:54 a.m. alert, the Brentwood Fire Department was the first fire department to arrive. According to the Brentwood Fire Department, crews discovered serious fire conditions in the basement, and the fire ultimately damaged the majority of the property. There were no reported injuries.
Among the agencies contacted to help Brentwood during the incident were firefighters from the Commack Fire Department. According to Commack, its members arrived on the spot to offer assistance to one another.
The fire occurred at a single-family home at 4 Stockton Street. Property records identify the address as a single-family residence of about 848 square feet, built in 1959.
Brentwood firefighters worked to bring the basement fire under control while mutual-aid personnel assisted with the operation. The extensive damage left most of the residence affected by the fire.
The Brentwood Fire Department later reported that no injuries were reported. No additional information about the cause of the fire was provided in the department's public report.
The response also demonstrated the role of mutual aid between neighboring volunteer departments. When a working fire requires additional personnel or resources, nearby departments can be requested to assist the department protecting the community.
Brentwood Fire Department serves the Brentwood Fire District and is based at 125 Fourth Street. The department identifies itself as a volunteer fire department.
