Firefighters Locate Broken Gas Line at Bohemia Warehouse

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Bohemia, N.Y. — July 22 — When firefighters arrived at a commercial warehouse in response to a report of a strong natural gas odor, they discovered excessive gas readings and a damaged gas line supplying a warehouse heater.

The first fire department to arrive was the Bohemia Fire Department. When Acting Chief of Department Mistler arrived, he noticed that the building had a strong natural gas odor. The damaged gas line was found after a thorough inspection by firefighters from Truck 6, Tower 3, and Rescue 10.

The department claimed that natural gas had built up within the facility as a result of the damaged line. Before the facility was safely turned over, crews attempted to locate the source and reduce the risk.

Members of True North Community Church reported the event after identifying the gas odor and dialing 911. Firefighters were able to look into the matter before it became a more serious emergency thanks to their early report.

In order to help with the gas hazard, utility staff also responded. The Town of Islip claims that National Grid provides natural gas to Bohemia.

In a public statement on July 23, the agency praised utility and mutual-aid partners for their assistance, but it did not name those organizations. None of the outside fire departments listed here can be independently confirmed.
