Fatal Two-Car MVA on I-84 in Newburgh

NEWBURGH, NY - On July 27th at approximately 7:40 A.M., Orange Lake and Winona Lake Fire Departments responded to a reported MVA with rollover and possible ejection on Interstate 84 eastbound at mile marker 34.1.


Town of Newburgh and New York State Police were at the scene. Town of Newburgh EMS transported two subjects to Montefiore-St. Luke's Hospital. The driver of one vehicle was in cardiac arrest, with EMS performing CPR on them. Preliminary investigation revealed that a small compact car was rear-ended by an SUV, causing both vehicles to leave the roadway and the SUV to rollover. The driver and sole occupant of the SUV was pronounced deceased.


Firefighters checked the accident scene for possible other victims of the vehicle that rolled over with negative results. New York State Police are investigating the cause. Orange Lake Fire Police blocked the ramp on State Route 17K to Interstate 84 Eastbound during the incident, and Interstate 84 was down to one lane during the investigation.
