Freeport, N.Y. — July 1 — A well-involved garage fire on Nassau Avenue was responded to by the Freeport Fire Department, located at 15 Broadway. When firemen arrived, they saw that there was a significant fire, so they quickly set up handlines to start suppression efforts. While workers attempted to control the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighboring homes, Chief of Department Burkart oversaw the situation.

In order to support fire suppression and overhaul activities, mutual aid agencies responded by providing extra staff and equipment. Before going back to work, firefighters put out the fire, looked for any hot spots, and made sure the area was secure. The cause of the fire was still being looked into, and no injuries were recorded.
