Tiverton, R.I. — July 18 — A report of an overturned vessel on the Sakonnet River with several individuals in the water prompted the Tiverton Fire Department, Portsmouth firemen, and local mutual aid organizations to arrive. Three people were successfully pulled from the river by firefighters and rescue teams, who then brought them ashore for evaluation by emergency medical services. Officials said that the fact that all three were wearing life jackets prevented more serious injuries.

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, the Little Compton Fire Department, and the Middletown Fire Department all offered additional support. The coordinated response emphasized the significance of wearing personal flotation devices while boating and the usefulness of regional mutual aid.
