Mutual Aid Assisted with Pawcatuck River Vessel Recovery

Westerly, R.I. — Aug. 3 — Westerly firefighters responded to the Pawcatuck River at approximately 8:35 p.m. following a report of an overturned vessel near River Bar and the downtown bridge.

Crews located an unoccupied 12-foot vessel overturned in the river. Shortly afterward, the boat broke free and became lodged alongside the River Bar building.

Westerly Fire Department Marine 30 and Pawcatuck Fire Department Marine 2, assisted by firefighters operating an NRS rescue raft, freed the vessel and towed it to the Main Street boat ramp. The vessel was then turned over to the Westerly Police Department.

The Westerly Ambulance Corps and Westerly Police Department also assisted with the response. All units cleared the scene at approximately 9:52 p.m.
