Johnson City Crews Stopped Fire From Spreading

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Johnson City, N.Y. — June 25 — When the Johnson City Fire Department arrived at 255 Ackley Ave. in response to a reported house fire, they saw smoke pouring from a two-and-a-half-story single-family home. After swiftly putting out a fire inside a first-floor bathroom wall, crews looked around the house for potential extensions. Before firefighters arrived, every occupant had safely left, and no injuries were recorded.

According to a Fire Marshal's Office investigation, combustible materials inside the wall were ignited by heat from a gas grill that was positioned too close to the house's outside. Residents were urged by fire officials to keep grills at least ten feet away from houses and other combustible objects whenever possible.
