Harrisburg- At around 04:33 p.m., city and county units responded to a working Box 1-3 for a well involved commercial one story garage fire located at 2327 N. 7th St. with several explosions going off. This was in the uptown area known as Camp Curtin. Heavy black smoke was visible in sections of the city as well as areas in neighboring Cumberland County. Surrounding the garage was an area that looked like a junk yard with vehicles and parts. A brush fire started in the rear of the fire building by the railroad tracks and a call went out to notify Norfolk Southern, and for the need of a brush truck and tanker to respond. Heavy fire in the rear of the building caused a collapse. At times smoke spewed onto the adjoining Farm Show Complex parking lot area. The fire was fought in 99 degree weather with several hand line streams, and master streams from Harrisburg's and Progress's tower ladders. The HFD was assisted with companies from New Cumberland, East Petersboro, West Shore and Progress. The fire was under control around 06:12 p.m.
