COLONIE, NY - On June 8th at 10:52 P.M., the Colonie Village Fire Co., along with Fuller Road Fire Department, Shaker Road Fire Department, Midway Fire Department, Stanford Heights Fire Department, West Albany Fire Department, and Boght Community Fire Company, responded to 7 Debbie Court for multiple calls reporting a structure fire with an explosion and heavy fire coming from the roof of the building.
Car 16 quickly called en route, and on arrival notified the dispatcher that the fire was through the roof of the building and declared the Signal 30. The chief also notified the dispatcher that he had possible entrapment inside of the structure.
The first arriving engine on scene pulled past the structure and firefighters quickly deployed multiple hand lines to the front of the building. The driver of the first due engine connected to the fire hydrant nearby and established a water supply. Firefighters made entry to the structure and began to conduct a primary search of the building.
As heavy fire was blowing 30-feet into the evening sky, additional resources quickly began to arrive on scene. With the heavy fire condition on the 'Bravo' side of the structure, firefighters quickly began to knock it down as the siding on the neighbor's home was beginning to melt. Firefighters that made entry to the structure had a large portion of the building that had been severely damaged, and a large portion of the floor opened and exposed.
Command was notified by Colonie Emergency Medical Services that the individual was accounted for, as they had been transported to the hospital prior to the fire. Firefighters inside the building quickly finished up their primary search and began to conduct an aggressive interior attack attempting to knock down a large portion of the fire. Command advised the interior unit that they did not have a good knock on the fire, and that they had a significant portion of the fire running the entire length of the roof.
The operations chief on scene notified command that they had heavy fire throughout the structure along with fire in the basement and they needed to go defensive and to pull everyone out of the building. Command notified the dispatcher to set off the evacuation tones on the radio and get everyone out of the structure. Firefighters immediately began to pull out of the building and regroup in the yard of the fire building.
Firefighters conducted a quick accountability check and then went into defensive operations. Fuller Road's truck company set up in the roadway and extended over the house. Firefighters quickly connected to the truck company, establishing a stable water supply. Firefighters on scene allowed for the truck company to quickly knock down the remaining fire. After the fire condition was under control, crews re-entered the structure and began to hit hotspots. Firefighters on the 'Bravo' side of the structure could not make entry to that area, as it was unstable and structurally unsafe.
Fire investigators arrived on scene and began to conduct their investigation into the fire. The neighbor's house suffered minor damage to the siding. Firefighters remained on scene for an extended period of time into the evening hours. No injuries were reported, and the fire is under investigation at this time.
