On Sunday, June 9th at 3:51pm, Upper Providence Township Department of Fire and Emergency Services’ Station 68 were notified of an unknown type of fire somewhere in the area of the Fitzwater Station restaurant in Mont Clare near the Schuylkill River.

Since Station 68 resources were committed to the building fire at the Parkhouse Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, the county automated dispatch automatically sent Lower Providence Fire Department, Phoenixville Fire Department and Kimberton Fire Company to this incident.

Crews found a very large pile of debris from past flooding on an island adjacent to Fitzwater Station.

Boats from Phoenixville Fire Department, Limerick Fire Department and Phoenixville Dive were used as well as assistance from Black Rock Volunteer Fire Co., Valley Forge Fire Company, Ridge Fire Company and Tower Health Ambulance.

The Upper Providence Township Public Works team brought three portable pumps and boats to transport hose, pumps and equipment from Lock 60 to the island. Station 68 Chief did not want crews operating after dark and the equipment was left on the island. The scene was cleared at 9pm Sunday. Station 68 crews returned early Monday morning June 10th to complete extinguishment of the fire.  Photos shown are from Monday morning.
