On May 31st, just before 4 p.m., the Town of Vernon Fire Department was dispatched to a commercial structure fire at the local Dominos Pizza on Windsor Ave. in the Rockville section of town. 911 callers initially reported smoke coming from the soffits of the roof with smoke filling the inside of the store. Car 141 was first to arrive and found a single-story commercial structure with fire and smoke visible from the C/D corner of the roof and declared a working fire.
Squad 441 was the first apparatus to arrive and laid LDH from a nearby hydrant and supplied a crew with an interior attack line. Tower 541 arrived and set up for roof operations. Roof crews opened up the adjacent roof areas to limit the fire spread.
Additional engines provided extra hands and a second line for the initial attack crew. The fire was knocked down within 10-15 minutes. Managers from the restaurant reported the store being closed for several days due to ongoing renovations and also reported a contracted roofing crew was working on the roof just before the fire. The health department responded to the scene as food product was affected due to the fire. Cause and origin investigation underway by the Vernon FMO.
