WALTHAM, MA - On Saturday, April 19th at 2:02 AM, the Waltham Fire Dept. was dispatched to 200 Trapelo Road, the former Fernald Property, for a report of fire in the area. The 911 call came from Phillips Circle and indicated it appeared trees and a building on the property were on fire.
Waltham Engine 8 arrived and reported a working building fire at 2:07 AM. The first alarm companies consisted of Engine 8, Rescue 1, Tower 1, Engine 2, C2 and Engine 3 at the RIT.
At 2:12 AM, C2 ordered a second alarm to assist with water supply, given the long distance between the hydrants on the property and the building that was on fire. C4 responded as the Safety Officer.
The 3rd Alarm was struck at 2:20 AM. The State Fire Marshal was notified and their office will assist WFD and WPD with the investigation.
A building across from the fire also burned. At 6:03 AM, a 4th Alarm was ordered to protect an exposure building.
All Waltham Fire Department companies along with command staff responded to the fire. Mutual aid companies assisting included Lexington, Newton, Belmont, Cambridge, Watertown, Arlington, Wellesley, Needham, Boston, Somerville and Brookline.
