In the morning hours of Saturday April 5th Woodbridge Fire Department, Avenel truck 5 and Port Reading Engine 2-1 were dispatched to the 200 block of Freeman St for a reported fire. The call was quickly updated to visible smoke and flames from the back of the house. While responding 1-3-5 had a column of smoke in the air and requested 2 additional engine companies. Upon arrival of the battalion chief he had a 2 story multi family structure class V and had smoke showing from the rear division 2 balcony and requested a first alarm bringing in an engine from Perth Amboy and a RIT team from Hopelawn. It was quickly determined to be an exterior fire and contents burning on the balcony and was quickly knocked by a can while 2 hose lines were being stretched. There was no extension into the residence and the fire was placed under control shortly after.
