BALTIC, CT - At 7:04 PM on Friday, April 11th, the Baltic Fire Department with Lisbon Engine 154 & Tanker 154, Occum Engines 41 & 42, Taftville Engine 21 & Truck 25 with the Yantic FAST and an American Ambulance Paramedic were dispatched to 133 West Main Street for a house fire. Car 24 arrived at 7:09 PM with a well-involved two-story, wood-frame residence.
Engine 124 arrived at 7:15 PM and stretched a two-and-a-half-inch hose line to the front. Tanker 124 nursed their engine as more lines were pulled. Engine 21 arrived next and also stretched a line to the front. Engine 42 laid in from the hydrant by Saint Mary’s to establish the initial water supply. Lisbon Engine 154 pumped the hydrant to boost the pressure. Truck 25 set up in the front for defensive operations as fire took ahold of the house.
Additional tankers were requested from Franklin, Lebanon, Bozrah and Windham Center. Eventually, the interconnect valve was opened by Sprague Water with Norwich Public Utilities which finally gave the scene enough water. Command requested three additional ambulances, so one was was started from Scotland and two from American. Three patients ended up being transported to a local hospital.
?The entire house eventually collapsed while crews operated defensively for a couple of hours. The Baltic Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating with the assistance of the Connecticut Fire and Explosives Investigative Unit.
