Passaic is a city in Passaic County, of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the city was the state's 16th-most-populous municipality, with a population of 70,537. Among cities with more than 50,000 people, Passaic was the fifth-most densely populated municipality in the United States, with more than 22,000 people per square mile. Nestled along the Passaic River, it is a sprawling urban city that has 1.1 square miles of park land combined with residential areas and a bustling downtown that leads to busy commercial and industrial section. It is easily reached by all major highways and is in close proximity to many major areas of North Jersey.

The City of Passaic on behalf of Mayor Hector C. Lora and Chief Patrick Trentacost of the Passaic Fire Department are pleased to announce that all members of the Passaic Fire Department have been trained in Urban Swiftwater Awareness and Operations by Superior Fire & Emergency Response Training LLC. and funded entirely by the federal Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program. This federal funding in the amount of $96,399.54 is a result of direct assistance given by the federal government to local fire departments to fund various activities including equipment purchase, training, fire prevention activities and recruitment and staffing. The concept of applying for this grant came out of the many urban flooding situations that that the City of Passaic has faced and the dangers that the citizens and firefighters have faced. Having the proper training and equipment to conduct emergency operations and save lives reinforces the core mission of the department. The severe weather events, especially related to urban flooding, have increased exponentially over the last few years and having this specialized training will ensure that all operations are conducted safely and efficiently, especially when other mutual-aid partners are not available to respond for assistance.

The firefighters took an in-house training course provided by Superior Fire & Emergency Response Training LLC. then practice in the water which took place at the boys & girls club of Passaic.

The equipment was purchased from All Hands Fire Equipment. which consist of twenty helmets, life vest, rope bags. wet suits, boots all purchase though the grant.
