Structure Fire at Tompkins Terrace Apartments in Beacon

BEACON, NY - On February 8th at 4:10 P.M. the City of Beacon FD, Village of Fishkill FD, Beacon Vol. Ambulance and Ambulnz (City of Beacon Medic 1) were dispatched for a structure fire at the Tompkins Terrace apartments.
BFD Cars 1 and 2 arrived on scene within three minutes to find a working fire in the rear of the apartment extending onto the structure. All occupants were safely out of the apartments. BFD Car 1 transmitted a second-alarm, dispatching Castle Point Fire with an engine and off-duty BFD Career Staff to the scene. The Rombout FD and Glenham FD stood by in the city to provide coverage.
BFD's crew advanced the first hand line into the involved apartment, and the fire was contained within minutes. All searches were negative. Firefighters were sent to the roof to ventilate and check for fire extension. Fire damage was confined to the apartment of origin and in the attic. Firefighters covered the furniture in the apartment below apt. 168 to prevent major water damage. The fire was investigated by the City of Beacon PD, and the DC Fire Investigation Division.
Dutchess County Cars 17, 51, 52 and 53, along with the City of Beacon Building Dept. and the Beacon Police assisted on scene. Two occupants were assisted for lodging by the Red Cross. No injuries were reported.
The cause of fire was determined to be from the misuse of smoking materials.
