HYDE PARK, NY - On January 17th, the Hyde Park FD was dispatched to a report of a rollover accident with a utility pole involved and possible entrapment. On arrival of the first unit, they found a car overturned on the shoulder of the road with the driver sole occupant hanging upside down by her seatbelt. The occupant was reporting only minor injuries and obvious difficulty in breathing being upside down. Hyde Park FD used a hydraulic extrication tool to pop the door to access the patient. NDP EMS personnel worked to treat the patient while FD was opening the door. Once medically stabilized, the patient was extricated from the vehicle and moved to the ambulance on the stretcher to be treated and transported to local hospital for care. Witness reports state the patient may have fell asleep and veered off the road, striking a utility pole before rolling over in the ditch. The Hyde Park FD was assisted at the scene by NDP EMS, Hyde Park Police and Central Hudson Electric.
