Residential fire on Dairy Farm Rd in Norwalk
The Norwalk Fire Department responded to a single-family residential structure fire at 17 Dairy Farm Road 16 mins past midnight on Thursday, January 16, 2025. Residents were actively attempting to extinguish a basement fire and rescue the family dog as the fire department arrived. Firefighters encountered heavy fire in the basement extending to the upper floor living area. Firefighters located the dog while simultaneously attacking the fire which was quickly brought under control. Extensive fire and smoke damage was caused throughout the entire dwelling. Rescue efforts on scene by the homeowner and Norwalk Hospital EMS to revive the dog were unsuccessful prior to being transported to a local animal hospital, which later confirmed that the dog unfortunately did not survive. Minor injuries sustained to escaping occupants are considered non-life threatening. 28 Firefighters responded in the 1st Alarm assignment consisting of three Engines, two Ladders, a Rescue Company and Command staff. Two residents were displaced as a result of the fire as the dwelling has been posted unfit for occupancy. The Norwalk Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
