Mastic N.Y.- On Saturday January 11, at approximately 1:23 PM, the Mastic Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire on Biltmore Drive, just off Riverside Avenue in Mastic Beach. Multiple calls flooded police and fire dispatch centers reporting a blaze that rapidly escalated in intensity.
Upon arrival, Assistant Chief Rudy Sunderman observed that the home was already engulfed in flames. Recognizing the severity of the situation, a working fire was declared, prompting immediate mutual aid requests from neighboring fire departments.
Chief Steven Januszkiewicz assumed command at the scene, with Assistant Chief Sunderman serving as the operations chief. Firefighters from multiple departments were requested to battle the intense flames. Simultaneously, EMS agencies were present, providing standby services and supporting firefighter rehabilitation efforts.
Crews deployed three handlines and utilized a deck gun to fight the fire. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of all responders, the fire was contained, and no injuries were reported.
After approximately two hours of firefighting, the scene was turned over to the Brookhaven Fire Marshal and the Suffolk County Police Arson Squad for further investigation into the cause of the blaze.
