A serious crash in the Town of New Scotland claimed the life of a woman back in October.
First responders were called to the area of New Scotland South Road and Orchard Hill Road on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at 2:20 p.m. for a report of a two-car crash with one person possibly unconscious.
As more information began coming into the dispatchers, it was reported there was entrapment in one of the cars and one person was not breathing.
Chief Mike Salisbury of the Onesquethaw Fire Department arrived approximately ten minutes into the incident and reported arriving to a person on the ground next to the car with other first responders already on scene performing CPR on one of the patients.
“It appears a vehicle with two occupants pulled out of Game Farm Road into the path of a vehicle traveling on New Scotland South Road,” said Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple in a post on Facebook.
Chief Salisbury said the car pulling off of Game Farm Road was struck on the driver's side, slightly entrapping the driver.
Due to the impact on the drivers side, both cars came to a rest against each other.
Crews had to move one of the cars away to gain access to the car that was struck.
Firefighters worked to remove the door off the car to get the driver out of the vehicle while EMS personnel were performing CPR on the passenger.
The driver was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the other car was treated for minor injuries.
The patient on the ground receiving CPR was a passenger in the vehicle that was struck on the driver's side.
Despite life-saving measures, the 91-year-old woman whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Road closures took place at Delaware Turnpike at New Scotland South Road, Orchard Hill Road at Spore Road, Game Farm Road at the railroad tracks, New Scotland South Road at Miller Road.
Chief Salisbury says the roads were closed for approximately five hours while police investigated the scene.
On scene were Onesquethaw, New Salem and Slingerlands fire departments, Onesquethaw EMS, Albany County Sheriff’s Ambulance, Delmar-Bethlehem EMS, Albany County Paramedics, Albany County Sheriff’s Department, New York State Police.
