At 2 pm on Wednesday, 1/8/2025 the Norwich Fire Department with East Great Plain Ladder 5 and Laurel Hill Engine 62 were dispatched to 53 Hedge Avenue for a reported house fire. Battalion 1 arrived at 2:04 with a working fire on the front porch of a 2.5 story wood frame residential house.
Squad A stretched a 1.75” hose line into the porch area and knocked the fire. Engine 2 handjacked 5 inch to the hydrant establishing the water supply. Two members of Truck 1 searched while the driver set up and threw ladders. Engine 3 stretched a second line and went to the floor above to check for extension. Crews had the fire knocked in about 10 minutes and then performed overhaul and ventilation. Ladder 5 and Preston Engine 11 staged out front while Rescue 5 filled cylinders.
Car 1 had command while the Battalion was operations and Car 10 had safety. The Mohegan Tribal Fire Department provided the FAST and the Norwich Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
