Ronkonkoma N.Y On the morning of January 1st 2021 Around 10:40 AM the Lakeland Fire Department was alerted for a reported structure fire at the Colony Park Luxury Apartments by Heather wood on Peconic St. Automatic mutual aid was also started from Ronkonkoma for an engine to the scene as part of the pre-plan. Lakeland Chiefs 3-13-30 & 32 were the first to respond.
On arrival of the chiefs 30 advised dispatch they had heavy fire on the 1st and 2nd floors of Building # 18 in the complex and additional mutual aid was requested at the time the size up was about 4 apartments, however the fire was spreading through the cockloft. Additional Multual aids were dispatched to the scene from Holbrook, Holtsville, Hauppauge, Nesconset, Central Islip , Bohemia, Ronkonkoma & more.
The building was quickly evacuated. Firefighters stretched about 6 lines and also set up multiple ladders around the building to work on an aggressive attack plan. They also removed multiple small pets from the building including a Guinea Pig. The fire had consumed a total of 8 apartments according to radio transmissions from the fire coordinators back to Fire Rescue base. The Red Cross was on scene to assist the displaced families from those apartments. The cause of the fire was being investigated by Suffolk Police Arson Squad as well as the Town Fire Marshal.
