This is in the area where the famous duel occurred in 1804 between Hamilton and U.S. Vice President Aaron Burr. Just opposite mid-town Manhattan, the Weehawken Dueling Grounds was located along the waterfront. There were at least 18 known duels there between 1700 and 1884. The most famous occurred between Hamilton and Burr where Hamilton was fatally shot by Burr.
