Newton, N.J. — July 25 — Members of the Lafayette Township Volunteer Fire Department conducted a realistic extrication drill using a training exercise called "Jaws of Life Jenga." Firefighters used hydraulic spreaders to carefully remove wooden blocks from a stacked structure without causing it to collapse.

Teamwork, communication, steady pressure, and accurate hydraulic instrument management were all assessed during the exercise. During the simulation, participants learned more about the rescue equipment used in vehicle extrications while honing their patience and accuracy in a secure setting.

The department was located at 126 State Route 15, Lafayette, N.J. 07848. Regular hands-on training allowed firefighters to retain the skills required to handle rescue equipment safely and successfully in emergency situations.
