After nearly 36 years in public service, FDNY Captain Vincent Cirino retired on August 1, 2026, in New York City, closing a career that included fire operations, hazardous-materials response and major emergency planning.

Cirino joined the FDNY in 1995 after previously serving with the NYPD. He began his fire service career at Ladder Company 168 in Brooklyn before moving to Special Operations Command. He later served for more than 22 years as Executive Officer of FDNY Haz-Mat Operations.

During his career, Cirino responded to the September 11 attacks and participated in the World Trade Center recovery operation. His Haz-Mat experience also placed him behind the planning for major New York City events, including the United Nations General Assembly, Times Square New Year’s Eve and other large-scale events and dignitary visits.

Cirino also contributed to citywide emergency preparedness, including work involving specialized Haz-Mat response and training. His retirement brings to a close nearly 36 years of combined service with the NYPD and FDNY, including more than three decades protecting New York City.
