Members of the Linden Fire Department observed Juneteenth on June 19, honoring the day that enslaved African Americans in Texas discovered they were free on June 19, 1865—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

According to officials, Juneteenth is a crucial time to remember a pivotal point in American history and to pay tribute to the accomplishments, tenacity, and fortitude of individuals who experienced slavery and its enduring effects.

Department heads reiterated their dedication to provide professional, courteous, and committed service to every member of the Linden community. They pointed out that honoring Juneteenth fosters appreciation, harmony, and understanding of the various populations the police works with.
