Manhattan skyline in smoke
Photo by RON JEFFERSThe Manhattan skyline seemed to be missing from behind the 9-1-1 memorial on the Weehawken side of the Hudson River on June 7th. This was the second afternoon that smoke traveled down and covered the New York-New Jersey metropolitan area from Canadian wildfires. More than 400 reported wildfires were racing across Canada, according to the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre. A "low-pressure system off the coast was pulling in the smoke down across our area," according to Fox Weather meteorologist Samantha Thomas. A NY Waterway ferry can barely be seen between the memorial.
