Sarasota County Florida Fire Station 8 opened in 2020 to enhance service to the Fruitville area. This impressive facility has four drive-through bays for the first out apparatus: Engine 8, Squad 8, Rescue 8, and Battalion 2. A second five-bay structure is located behind the main firehouse. A spare heavy rescue, Squad 9, is kept there along with Air Truck 8, Mobile Command 1, Special Ops 8, an MCI Unit, and a Special Ops Trailer.
The new station 8 has living quarters for 14 firefighters, including a kitchen with a large dining area, exercise room, day room, and screened porch area. There is a tower in the center of the building that is pleasing to the eye which also doubles as a training prop for fire suppression and technical rescue. It is common to see members fine-tuning their repelling skills. The architects built the entire structure to withstand a category 4 hurricane.
