ISLANDIA, NY - On December 18, 2023 at 9:02 P.M., on the eve of bad weather, the Central Islip Fire Department was placed into service for a reported brush fire to the rear of a residential structure on Serpentine Lane in Islandia. Once on scene, Chief of Department Vincient Plotino determined that the growing fire resulted from a downed primary powerline. PSEG was notified to respond to render the electrical lines safe for the extinguishment. Due to a delay in PSEG response, crews stood by with a booster line from Engine 374 while the fire consumed multiple wood and PVC fencing between homes. Once PSEG terminated the power to the lines, crews were able to douse the flames without further property being damaged. Chief Plotino, as well as Assistant Chiefs Vereline, McAteer and Ford, placed the scene under control. All units returned to service shortly after.
